Michael Jackson Music Videos On DVD or Blu-Ray

Being that I am a little older than my wife, the death of Michael Jackson had more of an impact on me than it did for her. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t start balling like a baby curled up in the fetal position in the corner of the room when I heard that he died. But growing up, he was like an idol to me. So much so, that I remember owning a jacket just like the one he wore for the music video “Beat It.” I was a huge Michael Jackson fan growing up. Even to this day, his music carries a certain appeal to me that just takes me back to my childhood and teenage years.

Anyway, like any other fan of Jackson’s, my wife and I got into a brief conversation of his life and music. And I was kind of surprised to learn that she hadn’t seen a couple of his more popular music videos. Well, I told her that I thought that she should watch them and I went online to purchase some DVDs containing some of them. So I was rather surprised to learn that a couple of his movies were never released as a region 1 DVD, well, at least not officially.

Now, I could have easily bought the unofficial DVD copies I saw online, which were nothing more than copies people had made by transferring the movie from VHS to a DVDr. But that is not what I want. I am a collector. And part of the appeal of collecting is owning the original or licensed materials that were put out. But there was none.

Now, don’t get me wrong. There are plenty of licensed region 1 DVDs that have some of the best music videos he has made. Michael Jackson – HIStory on Film, Vols. 1 and 2 are readily available as well as Michael Jackson – Dangerous: The Short Films. But what about having some officially licensed DVDs for Moonwalker and Ghost? Those two short films have never been released in region 1. Why not? Were we not big enough fans here in North America to warrant a release of them here? I own Moonwalker on VHS, but I am not willing to go out and buy a VHS player just to watch one video. I would also rather have it now on DVD. And while we are at it, why not an official DVD for Thriller? I have this on VHS as well, so why not sell it on DVD? Or why won’t they make a home version of the Disneyland attraction, Captain EO for people to watch? It was really one of the best shows they ever had there. And it’s not like it won’t sell. I mean, sad as it is to say, Michael seems to have seen a spike in his popularity to a level he had not seen for years before his death. Right now, the fans would eat it up.

But that is pretty much all I wanted to say here. I know it was a bit of a rant, but I just had to vent that.

Well, I guess I just had to receive this one day… and here it is. Someone asked me to do the 25 Random Things About Me thing that made its rounds last year on Facebook. Well here we go.

25. I am deathly afraid of syringes. But only if they are meant for me. I can give people shots… I just can’t take one myself.

24. I have a slight fear of unfamiliar dogs and cats. Once I get to know them, I am fine afterwards.

23. I had my first “real” kiss at 10 from an older friend. For a while, I thought she was my cousin, but that turned out not to be the case.

22. I lost my virginity at 13. And I kind of wish I had waited. I don’t regret what happened, I just wish I knew more about what I was doing.

21. I have to chew anything that I put in my mouth… ice cream, drinks, pens… anything. Just some obsession I have.

20. I have been diagnosed as having obsessive compulsive disorder. I have to have certain things done a certain way or organized a certain way, if not, I can become angered or disappointed.

19. I also have slight anger issues that I was prescribed Celexa but I refused to take. I relied on old martial arts training and meditation to get me through it.

18. I was officially hired into the L.A.P.D. on September 11, 2001. Scary huh. Though because of the events of that day, I didn’t start until the following Monday.

17. I have been engaged twice. Once to a girl who I was only with for physical reasons and stopped the ceremony just short of the altar in Vegas. The other time was to my wife, Desiree.

16. I am addicted to any candy with chocolate and peanut butter. Put those two together and you create sheer candy bliss.

15. I used to fight for money in street fights around my old neighborhood. It wasn’t bad either. Sometimes I walked away with up to $500 a fight.

14. Even though I used to fight, I am still afraid of being hit. Funny, cause usually I would let them take the first swing. Just had to do it that way though.

13. When angered, my first instinct is to hop in the car and drive so as to avoid a big fight or argument. I don’t like letting people close to me see me lose my temper.

12. From about the age of 12 until about 20 going on 21, I had a pretty bad drug and substance problem. I quit on my own, but only because of finally letting my family closer to me.

11. I am probably the most accident prone person I know. I have broken bones on more than 10 occasions, I have 13 known concussions, and I have torn so many things, I lost count.

10. I have survived 3 major accidents. One, a car ran a stop and sideswiped me. Two, when my car caught fire and exploded. Three when my best friend was hit with me in the car.

9. I would still be working at for Disney if I had a choice. Only thing that made me leave the company was that the pay was not on par with what other companies paid.

8. I met my wife on MySpace.com. For as much I as avoided internet dating, it is funny that I would meet my wife cause of a random message to a fellow Sailor Moon fan.

7. I hate cell phones. I do not like the idea of being contacted at all hours of the day. But I do understand the convenience of them.

6. If given the choice of sleep and video games, video games wins hands down. Video games are probably my best outlet for anything that I have ever come across.

5. I have been known to just sometimes start singing just out of the blue. Even without realizing it. A coworker once told me I sang for my entire shift and I never noticed that I was doing so.

4. In the entirety of my life so far, I can count on one hand how many people I have sincerely said “I love you” to outside of my family and actually have meant it.

3. For being the age that I am, it is hard for me to think of myself as anything but still a kid. Yes, I am grown up, but deep inside, the child in me will always be the most important part of me.

2. The greatest thing I have been called, or ever will be called, is “daddy.” My children are the greatest part of my life and I can’t see myself without them ever again.

1. For as much posturing and bolstering that I do, I really am shy at heart. I come across as extroverted and friendly, but deep inside, I am shaking right down to my very soul.

The list that follows is certainly going to be one of the most divided lists I will ever make. This is a five part list of My Top 25 Comic Book Artist. I have been working on this list for more than three months now, and while some people will agree with the choices I made, those same people are going to wonder why I didn’t put so and so on this list for whatever reasons. And I understand that. Comics have a way of doing that to the hard core fans. So before any of you fans out there get mad, understand, this is just my own personal list based on my taste. This is not the definitive list of comic artist, just one fans opinion on what he likes. So while I recognize the contributions and influence that legendary people like Jack Kirby, Bill Sienkiewicz, Frank Miller, and many others have had in this medium and its current artists, that does not make them my personal favorites, and I ask that you respect that as you look through this list. Okay, by self admission, I am very comfortable with my sexuality to note when a good looking me has passed by me or is in front of me. I am not afraid of saying anything, nor should anyone ever be. But that being said, I have sometimes looked at my comic books and thought “wow, that is a good looking hero” or something to that effect. Either way, here is my list of the comic book heroes that I think are the most hunky.

Hello everyone. This is just me blogging once again. Nothing important, just kind of felt the need to get on here and type.

So the summer movie season officially started today when the clock struck midnight. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is the first big budget blockbuster out the door. And it is a pretty good one at that. If X-Men: The Last Stand left a bad taste in your mouth, this one should do a good enough job of getting that out of there. I liked it enough to want to watch it again and I may just do that before I head on out next week to catch the midnight showing of Star Trek. Been hearing a lot of good things on that one, so now I am even doubly pumped to see it. Want to see what they did to revamp and reinvent the series is and if it is worth it. Then the following week I am off to see Angels and Demons and I hope they do a better job of staying with the characters than they did in The DaVinci Code. Still, I liked it for what it was. Then the following week is the release of Terminator: Salvation with Christian Bale and since I am a fan of both Bale and the Terminator series, I will be at the midnight showing of that as well. And finally wrapping up May, and just the first month of the summer movie season, Up launches into theaters and you all know that being the big Disney/Pixar fan that I am I just have to see that one as well. All I know is that May is going to just kill my wallet. I need to save money to get a new laptop, but with all the anime coming out and the summer movie season starting, I may not get around to doing that until August. Oh well.

But can you believe how many (hopefully?) good movies are coming out just in May alone. I am kind of happy that June seems to be a little more easy on my budget than May is. I mean, there are some movies that I want to see in June, especially Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which I will also be going to the midnight screening, at the end of the month, but for the most part, June seems kind of lacking to me. I mean, what do you have releasing there…Land of the Lost and Year One. I want to watch them, but they are not of great importance to go see. Not as much as the May set ones were or Transformers. July seems to be a better month for movies than June. I mean in July, you have Public Enemies, Bruno, and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince all coming out within one week of each other. Still, only one movie that will make me go to the ever popular midnight showing and that is the Harry Potter movie. And then finally in August, you have movies like G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and which I have really big doubts about but will still go see at midnight, District 9 which looks pretty good from what I have seen so far, Inglorious Basterds which I will go see because I love all that is Quentin Tarantino, and finally to end the summer movie season, we have H2 which completes that Rob Zombie remake of the classic Halloween horror film series and I will hopefully go to a midnight showing of that.

Okay, so for not having anything to talk about to going on about what movies I want to see this summer… yeah. I am a bit out of it, but still. This summer seems to be pretty packed with good movies. And I know there are some other ones coming out that I didn’t mention… I realize that, but this is just giving you all some insight in what I want to see this summer. Anyway… see you all later.

090421 Spring 2009 Anime Catalog Ordering List

All right, so the Spring 2009 Right Stuf Anime Catalog has arrived and I have had a chance to really look at it all and I finally know what I will be ordering from it. Now, everything that I am going to list I am not going to order in just one big mega money spending spree. This is stuff that I will order over the next few months so as not to totally break my bank in one fell swoop. But I just wanted to share this with you all and see if I could get your opinions on some of the stuff that I want to get.

There are a few things you should know before I tell you what I order so you kind of get why I order the way I do. In short, I was tired of buying anime DVD by DVD. So some time ago, I swore to myself that I would only buy complete sets, which in the long run are cheaper and easier to keep in order. 13 Fighting Games That Need A Sequel

Recently, I got to talking with some friends about what fighting games we would like to see sequels to with this generation’s platforms. Some were pretty obvious, and you will see which ones soon enough. But some are kind of a surprise to me. But still, I can see the sentiment in choosing them. So this is the list that was kind of generated from that discussion. Some of these games you should remember… some of these games you might remember… and then there are some games that are worth a quick search on the internet for as they were pretty fun games to play back in the day.

13. Thrill Kill – Release Date and Platform: Never Released, Proposed Release Was Late 1990s for the original Playstation

Okay, maybe not so much as a sequel but an actual release. I know many of you are familiar with the story behind Thrill Kill. Intended to be a violent and senseless fighter between characters who had found themselves descended into hell and are fighting for a chance at resurrection. Not the best storyline, but it was the promise of so much gore and violence that enticed many people who had heard of it and saw screenshots of the gameplay. But after EA acquired the original publisher of the game, Virgin Interactive, they quickly scrapped the game saying it would never release the game. You can actually find copies of the game through filesharing and download it for yourself. Still, it would have been nice to play this… and imagine how it would look if it were updated for today’s consoles.

12. Rumble Roses – Release Date and Platform: November 9, 2004 for the Playstation 2

Yeah, I know that Rumble Roses XX was released for the 360… but that doesn’t count because that game was nothing but a remake of the earlier version that had come out for the PS2. I have nothing against XX, but I just wanted a true sequel, I guess. They did add new features to the gameplay, but nothing more to the story or characters. For what it really was, and you cannot pretend this game is nothing more than fan service, it actually was a pretty good wrestling game. Maybe if Konami could come out with a true sequel for both the 360 and PS3 with updated visuals and more extras, I think it could be a pretty good game.

11. Power Stone – Release Date and Platform: September 7, 1999 for the Dreamcast

Now this was a really fun and addicting game that was released on the Dreamcast back in the day. I remember playing this game with my friends for hours as we all moved around the fully 3D environments and using power ups and even items found that could be picked up to attack and beat the hell out of each other. Arguably one of the best fighters on the Dreamcast, I think this game would translate well into this new generation. Power Stone and its sequel were released for the PSP… but I want to see this on the 360, PS3, and even the Wii. And I think many of us who played the original feel the same way about this one.

10. Tao Feng: Fist of the Lotus – Release Date and Platform: March 18, 2003 for the Xbox

What was promising to be one hell of a good game thanks to being created by one half of the team that brought the gaming world Mortal Kombat, Tao Feng fell real short on what it was supposed to be. It did deliver on what it said it would… being able to break limbs and bones rendering them useless, actual damage visible during combat, and destructible environments… but that is all it was able to do. The game is unplayable thanks to poor controls and such weak AI. I mean, I like being able to beat a game, but come on… this was just too easy. Still, for what it was to deliver on, I would like to see a cleaned up and fixed sequel on the 360 with all the original promises actually delivered.

9. X-Men: Children of the Atom – Release Date and Platforms: 1996 for the Saturn; May 3, 1998 for the Playstation

I listed this game as one that I wanted a sequel on because this is what really started the whole Capcom/Marvel collaboration series that went on to include X-Men vs. Street Fight, Marvel vs. Street Fighter, and the ever popular Marvel vs. Capcom 1 and 2. And while I know that people are clamoring for a new Marvel vs. Capcom game… me being the big X-Men fan that I am want to see a new game on the Wii, PS3, and 360 that would include all the staple figures in the Capcom universe and the vast characters of the X-Men series. Because we all know that the one thing the X-men franchise has in bulk is characters. Put in old favorites like Wolverine, Sentinel, Magneto, and Psylocke and include newer characters such as Dust, X-23, Exodus, and Sage and I think you would have one hell of a good looking game.

8. Rival Schools: United By Faith – Release Date and Platform: September 30, 1998 for the Playstation

A 3D tag-team fighter that was very fun to play, you would choose 2 characters to have on your team and work off that. With the ability to use tag team special moves and switch off characters at the end of each round, I thought this one was an awesome idea. The whole story was that all these rival schools were searching to find out who was kidnapping and attacking students at each particular school. Each school had a team of three chosen students that you could choose from. You could either pick two students from one school to play with and set off a particular chain of events one way, or pick one student from one school and one from another and play a totally different story. A sequel was released on the Dreamcast… but it came towards the end of that system and not many people had a chance to see it. So if Capcom could release this game on the PS3 and 360, I know people who were fans of the first game would love to play an updated version today.

7. Psychic Force – Release Date and Platform: October 3, 1996 for the Playstation and Dreamcast

Now this is a game that my friends and I were addicted to when we saw it in the arcades and played it for the first time and watched our characters fly around this 3 dimensional screen, though our movements were still limited to 2D. It did receive a sequel on the Dreamcast and later the Playstation as well, but nothing new was really added. Funny thing about this game is that the new game, Dissidia: Final Fantasy, yeah, the gameplay from the new FF fighting game reminds me so much of the fighting gameplay of Psychic Force. You can get up close and fight hand to hand or weapon to weapon or you can fight from a distance and use special powers and items to attack each other. Anyway, seeing as how a game that is seemingly just like Psychic Force is all ready coming out… why not make a new Psychic Force game for the PS3 and 360? I think it would work if you update it the right way.

6. Bloody Roar – Release Date and Platform: October 31, 1997 for the Playstation

Originally known as Beastorizer at the arcades, Bloody Roar was definitely one of my favorite fighting games for the simple fact that you could morph your character from a human fighter into a ferocious beast like a tiger, and bat or a bunny. … Yeah, Alice’s change always was kind of weird, but it was still a good fighter none the less. The controls needed some work, but I always thought it was an interesting concept. The last game in the series was released on the PS2 back in 2006, so it has been a while since the game was hot. Still, I think that if done right, this could be a moderate seller if remade on all three platforms out there right now. I especially think it would do well on the Wii… Why? Because quite frankly the Wii needs fighting games more than the PS3 and 360 do. Still, I would like to see it come out for all 3.

5. Bushido Blade – Release Date and Platform: September 30, 1997 for the Playstation

Now this is a game that kind of took a lot of people by surprise. A weapon based fighting game released by then Squaresoft. But that wasn’t the half of it. The game was actually pretty good. It made you think about how you were going to attack your opponent. You really couldn’t just button mash your way through this one. There were no life or time gauges… You had to find the right way to hit them and maybe injure a part of their body to incapacitate them in some way. And what made this all the better is that is you would catch your opponent with just the right move at just the right time, you could score an instant kill. Makes sense, right? Two people fighting with swords… one good hit and it is over. And you had to follow the ways of bushido while fighting. No cheap or underhanded tricks such as striking from behind. In those cases, there would be an automatic “game over” screen forcing you to fight fairly. There was a sequel on the original Playstation… and a spiritual successor of the sorts on the PS2 and 360 known as the Kengo series, but those were luke warmly to poorly received. Let Square and the old members of the Lightweight development team make a new game for the 360 and PS3. Hell, considering this is a sword fighting game, why not on the Wii. With the new sensor add on for the Wiimote, it should make this game really enjoyable on that system.

4. Samurai Showdown – Release Date and Platform: August 11, 1993 for the Neo Geo

This was a very popular arcade series back in the day. Following the success of Street Fighter, SNK took the fighting idea and added weapons to this 2D fighting game. It took the strong gameplay of Street Fighter and added the blood that Mortal Kombat put into their games and you had a great mix there. Fight like hell with your opponent and strike them the right way when their life gauge is depleted and you could perform the kill move that would either make them lose massive amounts of blood or slice them in half. And the characters were the best for the time. Haohmaru, Galford, Charlotte, Jubei, and Hanzo were some of the great characters that came out of this series. This game spawned many a sequel and a collected edition on the PS2, but no new true sequel has come out in years. Give it a new face lift ala Street Fighter IV and put it on the PS3 and 360 and I am sure some of the old school gamers who remember this one would snatch it up in no time.

3. Battle Arena Toshinden – Release Date and Platforms: September 9, 1995 for the Playstation and Saturn

Funny thing happened with this game. In 1995, EGM awarded the game the title fighting game of the year… however, in their lead up to their 200th issue they would also go on to call it one of the most over rated games ever made. Pretty awesome accomplishment, don’t you think? This 3D weapon based fighting game did have some good gameplay, but was not quite as good as Virtua Fighter two years earlier or Tekken which was released on home consoles that same year. Still, it was a good play and a lot of people remember it is one of the first fighting games they would buy for the then new Playstation platform. Give the fighting system a tweak here and there and I don’t see why it wouldn’t work on the Wii, PS3, or 360. It certainly did have it fans and was popular enough to release 3 sequels, though the last 2 games in the series never did reach North America. Still, I think nostalgia would get this game some moderate sales if it were remade.

2. Darkstalkers, the Night Warriors – Release Date and Platforms: March 28, 1996 for the Playstation and Saturn

Also known as Vampire and Vampire Hunter, this game took what made Street Fighter II great and added on to it. Now you could air block, chain combos, and even crouch walk. This was a solid fighter by Capcom that still can hold its own with today’s fighting games. And who could forget the characters. Hell, I still see Morrigan, Felicia, and Hsien-Ko cosplayers at every anime convention I attend. Add to the fact that some characters appeared in many other Capcom games and more of their vs series of games and this just adds to the popularity of this game. Spawning several sequels, the last game original game released for this series hit stores in 1998 and you know this game is due for an overhaul. Street Fighter IV is so positively received that I see no reason why you could not remake what is arguably the next best fighting game in Capcom’s catalogue for the 360 and PS3.

1. Killer Instincts – Release Date and Platform: August 1, 1995 for the SNES

Come on… what other game could possibly be at the top of this list but this one. I mean, fans have only been clamoring for a sequel since Killer Instinct Gold hit the N64 back in 1996. This was one hell of a fighting game. Awesome fighting mechanics, fun characters, great gameplay, killer combos that could go up to 80 hits and more, and blood. This was one that had me and a lot of my friends putting quarters into the machine time after time every afternoon after college and after work. It was fun and addicting and has been on the shelves since Gold. It is almost mystifying as to why Rare has yet to release a sequel for this franchise yet… but hope looms on the horizon. After years of denial, it may become a reality for many fans as on February 5, 2009, Microsoft's managers said they have "two new titles to be announced" by the end of March… one of which is based on a popular fighting franchise. But still nothing has come out. Still, it has raised the hopes of many fans of the series in hopes that a new KI would make its way to the 360. If they did come out with this game, then for sure I would buy another 360 for my home.

090406 Product Recalls

Okay, as a parent now, I have come across concerns that I never had as a single parent. And I pay attention to more specific things now than I ever had before in my life. So it is kind of sickening to me to see so many recalls of so many products over the last couple of years. Seriously, companies and governments go on and on about how much they care for the consumers and constituents… but when you look at just how much has been proven to be so dangerous for one’s self… especially things we give our children… this is rather disgusting.

Let’s take the toy recall from a while back first, shall we. I mean, thousands upon thousands of toys that parents had bought thinking they were safe for their kids ended up being recalled because of the dangerous levels of poisonous substances found in them. Where is the over sight committee designated to test these items that we give to our children? Why can’t they do the job with the budget they have? I understand they don’t get the biggest budget in the government… but then that begs the question as to why not. This is the group that is supposed to be protecting our children from products like the ones they had been letting through. And the government claims that they care for our children and the next generation of Americans above anything else. So why not proving it by providing more money for the people who sole job it is to make sure that the children are safe?

And then that brings us to the food our children should be eating. But they can’t… because it is all tainted. From beef to tomatoes to lettuce to now pistachios… really? Is there anything safe that we can eat. Where are all the procedures that companies are supposed to follow to ensure that we don’t get sick from an everyday thing such as eating? My stars and garters people… we can’t even be sure about what we are eating now. I mean, I am lucky enough to be able to afford organic and fresh vegetables from high end stores and local community farms. But not everyone can. And those people need to be able to feel safe that what they are feeding their families… their children… that it is safe for them to consume.

What is going on? Seriously, I want to know. I want to know when we went from being the best in consumer confidence to having a recall status that rest just above a third world country’s status? When did it become okay for companies to simply, at least in my mind, not give a good god damn about their consumers? When did it become okay for the government to prioritize minor things such as walking studies and studies on the affects of beer on rats over the groups and organizations that were put in place to protect the people of this country? The same people who voted those idiots into office in the first place.

But more importantly… when did we become so accepting of the current situation that we all seem to just take every new recall as an everyday and common thing? I think that is the worst sin of all.

Sorry to go on a rant like that… but I just needed to get that off of my chest.

090326 Finally I Will Be Serious About This

Okay, so I have seriously let my blogging here come to a complete stand still. And I really didn’t want that to happen. But I guess it is unavoidable when you really don’t have anything important or special to blog about. But I you know what, why should I focus on just one kind of topic or subject. I am a very, okay overly opinionated person and I love expressing those opinions to anyone who will listen. So that is what I will do. I will talk about every and anything. I mean, I am pretty up to the minute on what is going on in the world. I get around and am pretty knowledgeable on a number of subjects. So why would I just limit myself.

Now I will admit, since I am deciding to do this, I may sometimes just ramble on and on about certain subjects. I do that… a lot. I have been known to just harp on some things so much that I can completely annoy the hell out of even the most loyal and patient of peoples I know. So forgive me in advance for that. So, yeah.

Admittedly, I will not get back to blogging on here for at least a couple more days. I have a busy weekend schedule ahead of me, but trust me. What I am going to be doing this weekend will give me plenty to talk about. Oh yeah. Weddings, collecting money from people, seeing my mom off back to Mexico, and a Disneyland trip. Oh yeah, I will have lots to talk about.

So I will see you all next week. I will let you all know how I feel about everything that went down. And I will try and not bore you all with my rants and raves.

I mean, don’t get me wrong. Not everything I will say will be negative… but I do tend to talk more about the negative than the positive. And not that everything that happen to me is bad. Just I need to release more of the bad than probably most people. And since it is sometimes so hard for me to find someone close to me to vent that to, maybe I can do so with people who I may not be that close to. Or I don’t know…

090114 Who Am I

So I guess that I should start off my first blog wit the all too obligatory who am I post. You know, the one where I tell you who I am and what it is that I do and what I will be blogging about and why. So I guess here we go…

My name is Richard and I was born in November of 1978. I was born and raised in Los Angeles to a father who was born in Texas and a mother who was born in Mexico. I have one younger sister who is three years younger than I am and I later found out that I have a half sister who is about thirteen years younger than me. With that last statement, it should be obvious that my parents are divorced and have been since I was eight, but for reasons that my parents still have not told me. I guess they think that if they did, I would lose respect for one or both of them. Anyway… I have been lucky enough to travel the world thanks to my parents.

I went to a magnet school up until junior high where the main focus was on academics and theater. And I appeared in school and community performances from the age of five up until about twenty. But don’t think that I am just a theater kid. I have played sports since five. I started in baseball where I was an okay player, moved on to martial arts where I won a couple of tournaments, and then on to football which became my passion. Good enough to be scouted during my junior and senior years, I gave football my all. In fact, I was so into football that I ended up breaking my knee so bad in football that I was put into physical rehabilitation for almost a year trying to heal my knee enough so they wouldn’t amputate it. Yeah, that was about the scariest thing to happen to me.

But aside from those sports, I also enjoy comic books, video games, and professional wrestling. I got into wrestling as a kid because my father was a pretty big fan of it. Since then, I have been lucky enough to attend such events as house shows, TV tapings, and main events like Survivor Series, the Royal Rumble, and Wrestlemania and have been lucky enough to go backstage and meet several of my favorite wrestling personalities. Comic books I kind of got into on accident as I really didn’t get into them until junior high. But I have been to comic conventions across the country including Comic Con and Wizard World (Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Texas). My very first comic book was a copy of Uncanny X-Men. Since then, I have become a huge Marvel Comics fans. But I have branched out to other companies such as DC, Image, and Top Cow. I follow other independents as well, but only after hearing good things via word of mouth. In fact, my favorite characters are Wolverine, Spider-Man, Green Lantern, Flash, Braniac 5, Witchblade, Grifter, Backlash, Invincible, and Emma Frost. But my all time favorite character is Captain America.

But of my hobbies, video games are definitely my passion. I still remember my very first video game system which was the Atari 2600 in 1982. Since then, I have been lucky enough that I have had every video game system since then and even now have been lucky enough to have all next gen consoles. I have made it my personal mission to break into the industry somehow. I know I will never be a designer, but I figure I just might make it as a gaming reporter. I have been lucky enough so far to attend E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo), E For All, CES (Consumer Electronic Show), and PAX (Penny Arcade Expo). Currently, I am also involved with three gaming communities online. I am an avid user of both, Game Trailers (http://www.gametrailers.com) and the GEN (http://www.girlsentertainmentnetwork.com) where I participate regularly in the forums and blogging post. I am also involved with and a member of the Entertainment Consumers Association (http://www.theeca.com), a grassroots organization dedicated to protect the rights of gamers around the country. Currently I am trying to start a local chapter here in the Los Angeles Gateway area. So if any of you are interested in joining, let me know.

Oh yeah, there is one other passion that I have. Anime and manga. I kind of consider them one and the same. But yeah, I got into anime back in the mid eighties thanks to cartoons like Robotech and Transformers. My mom and dad, seeing that I enjoyed the style of cartoon, went out and bought me some videos such as Guyver, Kimba, 8^th Man After, and Speed Racer. Since then, I eventually got into manga, cosplay, and going to conventions. In fact. I have kind of been a regular at Anime Expo since 1996. I stopped cosplaying about six years ago after becoming a bit out of shape but I have been recently trying to get back into shape, not just for cosplaying, but it would be a nice bonus.

Aside from all those likes of mine, I also enjoy movies and music… but more movies. My favorite genre is horror, but oddly enough a horror movie is not anywhere in my top 5. And they include, in order, Singing in the Rain, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Forrest Gump, Silence of the Lambs, and Battle Royale. As for music, I am a fan of almost every genre and I am very open to listening to almost everything. My favorite musicians include Metallica, Beethoven, Celine Dion, System of a Down, Utada Hikaru, and Glenn Miller.

However, what defines me the most right now is my family. I am married and have been for three years now to my wife Desiree. And together we have two beautiful children… my daughter who is oldest, Liliana Sierra, and my son Alexander Dimitri. We are also expecting our third child, who should be arriving sometime soon. Being a husband and father has changed my life in ways that I would have never expected. And all for the better. It changed the way I view many things in life including censorship, education, and parental responsibilities. Mostly, they have become more radical than they were before. Except for the instances involving pornography, I do not believe in censoring anything from a child. I believe that they are capable of understanding what they are exposed to with just a bit of education into the subject. Children are indeed smarter than many people give them credit for. As for education, I believe that we as a country have let the lazy and unmotivated change the way we teach our children in schools for the worse. I was lucky enough to have a good education and going to college and graduating no matter where I went to school. And I hope to instill those same levels of intensity into my children that if they just work hard and not stop trying, they can succeed beyond any limitations anyone would ever put on them.

And as for parental responsibilities… I feel that parents today are lazier than ever and believe that they shouldn’t have to shoulder the majority of responsibilities of raising their children. I believe that they have become lazy and see fit to let others do the job for them. And when things go wrong they are quick to blame everyone else but themselves for what happened. When their children misbehave they are quick to judge anyone who they think is responsible for what happened. That includes music, TV, movies, and games. That most parents today are to lazy to sit down and explain and teach their children what is right and wrong. That they are to lazy to pay enough attention to what their children are involved in. That I will not be like the rest of them and I will do all that I can to make sure that I do everything for my children. … … …

Anyway, from what you read up there you will kind of get an indication of what I will be blogging about. And as you may have ascertained from what you read above I am not the best writer in the world. Most of my writing can become jumbled and jump from one subject to the other without any real bridge. And I make no apologies for this. It is the way I write and it is what makes me unique. I also would like to think that I am very unbiased. Though I do have strong opinions, I have been told that I am able to separate my beliefs from what I am writing about.

Anyway, I hope that I am able to deliver to you a blog that may be just like every other yet unique onto itself. I hope to give to you a very unique point of view on some things that you hear being talked about time after time. I hope to entertain you enough to hopefully come back and read my blog again and again. So yeah, I really just hope you enjoy.
